The Instant Pot is the easiest way to cook corn on the cob. It’s fast, simple, and tidy—whether your ears are fresh or frozen, the Instant Pot yields tender, evenly cooked corn every time.

Growing up in the Midwest, summer isn’t complete without corn on the cob. Corn picked straight from the field is in a different league than grocery-store ears. Over the years I’ve tried every cooking method—boiling, microwaving, grilling—but the Instant Pot has become my go-to. It’s consistent, low-maintenance, and produces perfect corn every time.
If you love corn as much as I do, try other corn-forward recipes in your collection to complement this method—roasted corn salsas, gluten-free cornbread, casseroles, and creamed corn all pair wonderfully with freshly cooked ears.
Why You’ll Love This Method
The Instant Pot (electric pressure cooker) removes the guesswork. It’s fast, requires very little water, and keeps everything contained so there’s no splattering or boiling over. A few reasons this method stands out:
- This method is extremely easy—likely the simplest way to cook corn on the cob.
- You can set it and forget it. No need to watch a pot or rotate cobs for even cooking.
- Make ahead: the Instant Pot will keep the corn warm until serving.
- Uses only 1 cup of water, compared with using much more when boiling.
- No mess: everything stays in the pot without spills or boil-overs.
How to Pick the Perfect Ear of Corn
Freshness matters. If you can buy corn soon after harvest, you’ll notice the best flavor and texture. When selecting ears, look for:
- Husks and silks that look fresh and moist, with husks that are a vibrant green rather than dull or dried.
- Kernels that are plump and bright—yellow or bicolor depending on variety—and not shriveled or brown.
- When you peel back the top of the husk, check for any insect damage. Small pests can be common with minimally treated or farm-fresh corn; you can avoid those ears or trim away affected areas.
Fresh Corn on the Cob in the Instant Pot

- Place the cobs in the Instant Pot liner. Use a trivet if you like; cut cobs in half if necessary to fit.
- Add 1 cup of water to the pot.
- Close the lid and set to Manual / High Pressure for 2 minutes for fresh corn.
- When the timer finishes, either allow a natural pressure release or perform a quick release, then serve.
Frozen Corn on the Cob in the Instant Pot

- Arrange frozen cobs in the Instant Pot. Use a trivet if preferred and cut cobs in half to fit.
- Pour in 1 cup of water.
- Cook on Manual / High Pressure for 3 minutes.
- Release pressure naturally or use a quick release, then remove and serve.
Instant Pot Corn on the Cob in the Husk
You can cook corn in the husk in the Instant Pot—handy if you prefer to shuck after cooking. Add one extra minute to the cook time.
- Place unshucked cobs in the Instant Pot.
- Add 1 cup of water.
- Cook on Manual / High Pressure for 3 minutes.
- Release pressure naturally or quickly, then carefully remove and shuck before serving.
How to Keep the Corn Warm Until Serving
You can cook corn up to an hour ahead. Keep the lid on—the Instant Pot will switch to the Keep Warm cycle and maintain temperature. When ready to serve, release any remaining pressure and open the lid to hot, steamy corn ready for butter and salt.
How to Store Leftover Corn on the Cob
Store leftover ears in the refrigerator for several days in an airtight container or a zip-top bag. Reheat in the microwave or briefly in the Instant Pot. To preserve kernels, cut them off the cob and freeze in a flat freezer bag for later use in soups, casseroles, or side dishes.
What to Serve with Instant Pot Corn
Instant Pot corn pairs well with grilled steaks, roasted chicken, fresh salads, or sliced off the cob for bowls and salads. It’s versatile and complements many main dishes and sides.
Instant Pot Corn on the Cob FAQs
No. There’s no need to wrap ears in foil; they cook well placed directly in the pot.
No. Cutting cobs in half does not change the cook time—use the same timing as whole ears.
No. You can cook as many cobs as fit comfortably; the pressure cooking time remains the same.
Use a trivet if the cobs fit with it. If they don’t, place the corn directly in the liner—both ways work fine.
