Today I’m sharing a quick, practical recipe I recently made out of necessity: a homemade Italian seasoning blend.
I know some cooks avoid premixed blends like Italian seasoning, seasoned salt, or lemon pepper. But I use them often — they’re convenient, dependable, and great for quick weeknight meals. They were how I learned to season food when I was first experimenting in the kitchen, and I still reach for them when I want to add fast, familiar flavor to soups, flatbreads, pizzas, or a simple roasted chicken.
That said, one day I reached for my jar to make a fast Italian-style salad dressing and found it nearly empty. So I pulled out the individual dried herbs and created my own blend. If you’re in a pinch, want a fresher result, or prefer to customize the proportions, homemade Italian seasoning is easy to make and stores well.

This version is a classic blend of dried herbs only. Some commercial or gourmet blends add garlic powder, onion powder, or crushed red pepper; I prefer to add those separately so I can control the heat and intensity for each recipe.
