Arctic Polar Bear Milkshake Recipe — Creamy Chilled Treat

We’re excited for the new movie Norm of the North, which opens this week. To celebrate, we made a fun Arctic Polar Bear Milkshake inspired by the film.

Polar Bear Milkshake

Meet Norm: a lovable, talkative polar bear from the Arctic who heads to New York City to stop developers from destroying his home. Along the way he faces big-city challenges, learns about identity, and proves that stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to great things.

Norm of the North

Change can feel scary for kids, but it’s also an opportunity to grow. My five-year-old recently returned to swimming lessons after winter break and faced a big challenge: swimming the entire length of the pool. There were some tears at first, but this week she bravely made it across with her teacher. To celebrate her courage, we’re planning to see Norm of the North — a movie about doing something big and trying new things.

Family dancing

Norm and his friends created a playful dance called the Arctic Shake with instructions so families can “Shake Your Bear Thing.” We put on our matching Norm of the North socks and danced along before making milkshakes.

Matching socks

After dancing, we made Arctic Polar Bear Milkshakes — milkshakes decorated to look like adorable polar bears. To get the fluffy white rim, I dipped the glass rim in corn syrup and then in white candy shreds. If you prefer coconut, shredded coconut works great, too.

Once the glass is rimmed, pour the milkshake carefully to avoid disturbing the candy shreds. Use black glitter gel frosting to draw the polar bear’s face, then add a few extra pinches of white candy shreds for a fluffy look.

Description

A frozen treat that’s perfect for winter and fun for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • white candy shreds (or shredded coconut)
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • black glitter gel frosting

Instructions

  1. Combine ice cream and whipping cream in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour a tablespoon of corn syrup into a shallow saucer or bowl.
  3. Place the white candy shreds (or shredded coconut) in another shallow saucer.
  4. Gently dip just the top edge of the glass into the corn syrup.
  5. Then dip the top edge into the candy shreds (or coconut) to coat the rim.
  6. Carefully pour the milkshake into the glass, avoiding the edges so the rim coating stays in place.
  7. When the glass is filled, use black glitter gel frosting to create a polar bear face. Add a few extra candy shreds for a fuzzy effect.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy.
