Do you always end up cooking more pasta than you need? Despite using a spaghetti measure, it’s easy to overdo it and end up with a bowl of leftovers in the fridge. Rather than toss those extra noodles, transform them into something new: Leftover Spaghetti Bolognese Nests. They’re quick, family-friendly, and a simple way to reduce waste.

I’ve been trying to be better about using leftovers. Serving the same meal two nights in a row can bore adults and be a real challenge for picky eaters. These nests take leftover spaghetti bolognese (or any sauced pasta) and turn it into an appealing baked dish that looks different enough to feel like a fresh meal.

For best results use pasta that still has some sauce so it won’t dry out in the oven and so the strands bind together. Adding grated cheese helps the nests hold their shape once they cool. You can adapt this idea to whatever pasta and sauce you have on hand—it’s forgiving and very practical.

Although you’re technically serving the same dish as the night before, presenting it as baked nests changes the texture and appearance, which often makes it more appealing to children and fussy eaters. Serve them with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables to round out the meal.

Description

Use your leftover spaghetti bolognese to make these easy and delicious Leftover Spaghetti Nests!

Ingredients

Scale

  • 500g / 16oz leftover spaghetti bolognese or pasta with sauce
  • 75g / 3oz grated cheese
  • spray oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F. Lightly spray a cupcake or muffin tin with oil.
  2. In a bowl, mix the leftover spaghetti bolognese (or any sauced pasta) with the grated cheese until well combined.
  3. Spoon a generous portion of the spaghetti and cheese mixture into each muffin cup, pressing lightly so it forms a nest shape.
  4. Bake for about 10 minutes. Let the nests cool in the tin before removing them—if the cheese is still hot and melted they can fall apart.
  5. Serve warm with a green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
