I’m still unwinding from the chaos of finishing the cookbook, and it felt like the perfect time to share my review of our Fisher & Paykel Professional Style Gas Range. We put the range through heavy use over the last few months while developing, testing, and shooting recipes for the book, and it’s been an essential and reliable part of the kitchen.
Charles and I built our dream home this past year, and the kitchen received a lot of attention. We both love being in the kitchen, so choosing appliances that matched our needs was a priority. We selected Fisher & Paykel, a New Zealand brand known for well-made appliances across the home, including laundry.

The range is the heart of our kitchen — where we laugh, drink wine, and cook for friends and family. Before shopping, we created a must-have checklist to guide our decision:
- Double ovens
- Gas fuel
- Six or more burners
- Easy to clean
- Industrial / professional look
- Traditional knobs rather than touch-only controls
- Reliable and powerful performance
- Good value for the price
While shopping at Coast Appliances (we highly recommend visiting a local dealer if you have one — Rob Siddon at the Kelowna location was fantastic), we found the Fisher & Paykel options matched all of our criteria.
Highlights of the Fisher & Paykel Professional Style Gas Range we love:
Sealed Dual Flow Burners™ for precise heat control. These burners deliver strong, fast boiling and a gentle full-surface simmer down to 140°F across all eight burners, which gives excellent versatility for every task.
Halo-illuminated cooktop dials. The illuminated dials provide clear visual feedback about which burner is active — a small but priceless detail when little kids are zipping around the kitchen. The dials are straightforward to use and feel very durable.
Flexible oven capacity. The ovens offer maximum usable space, large enough to fit full-size baking sheets or a 20 lb turkey. The secondary oven is ideal for side dishes or a 9×13″ lasagna pan, which is great when cooking multiple items at once.

Fisher & Paykel offers a range of styles, from contemporary sleek designs to professional-style ranges, so you can pick the look that suits your kitchen. When choosing a range, consider these key factors:
- Fuel Type: Gas vs Electric. We installed both: a wall electric oven in the pantry for dedicated baking and a gas range for general cooking. Each has its strengths — electric for even dry heat and gas for moister heat and instant control.
- Size and Style. Ranges come in many configurations: integrated or freestanding, counter-depth or standard, heritage, contemporary, or professional. Since a range is often a kitchen focal point, choose a style that complements your space.
- Burner Quantity and Configuration. We chose an eight-burner model with a removable grill option. More burners are helpful when entertaining or preparing multiple dishes; a grill or griddle is handy for brunch or big breakfasts.
- Ease of Control. Practical, tactile knobs are preferable for us — they’re simple to use when multitasking and less likely to cause problems than delicate touch controls. Manual dials are reliable and intuitive, especially with messy hands.
- Power and Performance. Strong burners matter. Moving from an old electric cooktop to this powerful gas range was a real upgrade — heat is immediate and consistent.
- Budget and Value. Prices vary widely, and Fisher & Paykel offers excellent value for the quality. We feel the range delivers strong performance for the investment.
We paired the range with a Fisher & Paykel hood fan sized to handle the output of a large range and integrated it into our cabinetry. The installation looks seamless and performs well.
I hope this review helps if you’re shopping for a new range. If you have questions, feel free to ask in the comments below.
