Frosted Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars — Creamy No-Bake Recipe

I’m excited to share a fresh take on a familiar favorite: frosted chocolate peanut butter rice cereal treats. I’ll be honest — the classic rice crispy bars rarely thrill me anymore unless they’re warm. Then I spotted a recipe on the lid of a new peanut butter-and-chocolate spread my family loves, and I couldn’t resist trying it.

So I made a batch yesterday.

Today the pan is empty.

They’re that good.

You need them.

Yes, really.

And haven’t you been good all day long?

Consider this your gold star.

You’ll need: crisp rice cereal*, marshmallows, butter or margarine, and a tub of Jif Whipped Peanut Butter & Chocolate.

*About the cereal — The original recipe suggested chocolate crisp rice cereal, but I used plain crisp rice and they were still delicious. Use chocolate-flavored cereal if you prefer, or regular cereal for a lighter chocolate presence.

You little rebel, you!

This is the spread I used — labeled Peanut Butter & Chocolate, though it tastes mostly like chocolate with peanut butter to me. I find it near the peanut butter in most stores. Buy two tubs if you plan to frost generously.

Instructions —

Place marshmallows and butter in a medium saucepan.

Stir over medium to low heat until fully melted.

Add in the chocolate peanut butter spread and stir until melted and smooth.

Pause and savor the idea of chocolate peanut butter for a second — yum!

Stir well until fully blended.

Fold in the cereal until it’s evenly coated.

Press the mixture into a greased 8×8 pan and allow to cool.

To make pressing easier, wet your hands slightly — I often rinse and leave them a bit damp before patting the mixture into the pan. Good hand hygiene while cooking is always smart.

Frost with the remaining peanut butter & chocolate spread.

If you want a thicker frosting, open a second tub and spread a little more on top. The spread has an icing-like texture without being overly sweet, so it makes a great topping.

The baking dish pictured is Fire King in the Blue Heaven pattern, if you were curious.

Enjoy!

My husband normally doesn’t care for rice crispy bars, yet he ate two of these and came back for a third. My teenage son had two, and my daughter and I gave them a big thumbs up (spoon-licking while making them does not count). These are now our go-to cereal bar when you want chocolate and peanut butter together.

I also love the Jif Whipped Peanut Butter & Chocolate as a lighter, less-sweet icing alternative. I plan to try it on a cake soon.

Until then, make these and enjoy!
